New Year

This is Maddies' Dobbie writing a little note, her first day back to school!..I know! the summer went way too fast and Mads' would totally agree! She spends part of her time in the waiting room near the principles office if her sugars are acting up, so she was not looking forward to that...why?...well, "I have to see people come there and Vomit sometimes..!.."she shares.... that is not fun!!...and I am a nurse!...but her sis Ellie and Mads got started today, regardless of any hesitation!..they rode bikes yesterday and celebrated the last day of summer..they had a busy one too..their parents finally sold their home next door and so they moved into the home next to them to live in while they build a new home in a another town and neighborhood...this way they can go to the same school, etc until the house is done..they are excited about having their own rooms and picking out the colors and of course, what quilts they want me to make them!!!!....they came to Camp Dobs and Papa's for a longer than planned vivsit...their Moms' Suv broke down in our lane and it is still in western Indiana a month later waiting for parts...so needless to say, things can only calm down and get better for them !!!
So, gals! have a great and wonderful year! You are tremendous and Papa and I love you very very much....as we do your little sis CC...she is another ornary story for another day!..
God Bless!!! Enjoy being young! As my Mom always said...It only happens once!... Love you!! Dobs

Quilts of Hope

Summer has arrived! The cousins are coming soon and Maddie and Ellie and Caroline are going to have a "blast".
I, being Dobbie, Maddies' Grams, have finished 3 quilts of hope for Maddies outreach to JDRF... She should be my first recipient, along with her 2 sisters.
The next step is for Maddie to decide who will get the next batch of quilts. Someone she knows. Diabetes affects the child and the whole family..so we want to reach out to the brothers and sisters of a diabetic child by giving them a quilt also.
The quilts will be simple but bright and cheerful as we can make them.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please leave us a comment with your email and we will get with you!!
Thank you! God Bless!! Quilted Blessings....Kari

Getting Started!

Today Maddies' little sister Caroline, I call her CC, called me on her Mommys' cell phone! Leah said, "Hey I don't know how she did it!" I laughed! I also get calls from Coralynn, just 8 months younger than CC, on her Mommys' cell phone too! and Dobbie loves it!!..yes, we have a Caroline and a Coralynn close in age, and no I never get names mixed up.....much....heehee.
Today Maddie is having issues with her sugar level...it is very high...they don't know what causes it...it gives her bad stomach pains at times and of course, she misses school because of it..she does have a pump that gives her insulin day and night, but she still has to stick herself and also give boluses with the pump....there are less needle sticks than before the pump but there are still needle sticks!
I am praying for a cure! as anyone would! and I was just walking through the TV room last week and an interview caught my eye....the young gal appeared a little Autistic and they were saying how she read novels at age 2 and could read at age 8 months...she now is 17 and is on her way to China to study diabetes!!..she already has her PHD...she was so sweet but she hates diabetes and wants to find a cure!...I pray everyday God leads her hands, emotions, mind and spirit as she dedicates her life to the "cure".
I also stopped by and bought some cute kid fabric to make 3 special quilts...my first quilts for this cause...Quilts of Hope!!! ... they will be for my Maddie and her sisters Ellie and CC....
Please make a comment if you are interested in joining this cause and we will get in touch with you! Hope filled Blessings!!! Kari

Quilts of Hope

Quilts of Hope! What an idea! What a Name!
Life changed for our Maddie a couple years ago...She became diabetic after a strep infection. Her Mommy noticed her increase in thirst and also her weight loss..I am her Dobbie, her Granny.
We went shopping and I ordered a strawberry frapochino....the kids drank it and our little gal got soooo silly...we laughed and laughed at her as we drove home, but in the back of our heads we were wondering what was going on, really....almost a week later her symptoms increased and it was discovered that her blood sugar was dangerously elevated.
From that day forward, her life and her families' lives have changed...the constant reminder is always there...she handles is as well as only a kid can!..some days are good and some days are just rough!..
Maddie wants a cure to be found...she wants more people to be aware of diabetes and its' affect on kids and families...
Her eyes lit up when I asked her if she would be interested in forming a "foundation" for making quilts for diabetes awareness and its' cure! Maddie jumped right in! and named it Maddie and Ellies Quilts of Hope.....straight and to the point! Ellie is her younger sister, faithful, always true to Maddie.
She also has a younger sister Caroline....the youngest firecracker!...Maddie directed that her little sis CC could join.. when she was older!
So, please leave a comment of encouragement, if you pass this way....Maddie will be joining in and helping with this blog....so we will see what she creates! If you want to start making quilt tops or quilts for us, please give us a way to contact you and we will get this "ball of hope" rolling!! Blessings! Dobbie
